And your new Atlanta Pride executive director is…

The national search is over, but the final pick was just around the corner. The Atlanta Pride Committee announced today that they have named longtime volunteer Jamie Fergerson as their new executive director. Fergerson replaces Buck Cooke, who announced in March that he was stepping down from the position and moving to London in July.

“We are very pleased to make this announcement,” said Atlanta Pride Board Chair Trisha Clymore in a statement. “Jamie’s career history, education and community service is a perfect fit for Atlanta Pride. She has a deep sense of commitment to this organization- and has already enthusiastically served at a variety of program, executive and leadership levels so her position is exceptional. Jamie has a breadth of perspective and experience that makes her uniquely qualified to continue moving Atlanta Pride toward lasting and greater success.”

Fergerson has served as an Atlanta Pride volunteer for over a decade and has 15 years of experience in fundraising, executive planning, administration, community building and event experience. She most recently managed grantmaking and community outreach for Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta.

“I moved to Atlanta during Pride Week of 2001,” Fergerson reflected in a statement. “I was in the middle of a difficult coming out process, and Atlanta Pride was my first glimpse into the vibrant LGBT community in Atlanta. Atlanta Pride was a source of hope for me. I began volunteering the next year and I’ve never left.”

Fergerson thanked those who helped build the Pride movement, citing Cooke in particular for his contributions. Her first day in the position will be June 29 and she will spend several weeks working alongside Cooke before his final day on July 9.

“I look forward to working with all of the members of our diverse community and our allies to continue the march towards justice and equality for all,” she said.
