Apparently a lot of people give a damn

The news that “True Blood” star Anna Paquin reveals she is bisexual in a video for the “Give a Damn” campaign has so many people interested the group’s website has been down for hours and hours due to heavy traffic.

Well, who knew so many people gave a damn about LGBT rights.

The Associated Press reports: “The Web site, wegiveadamn.org, said Friday that it was ‘overwhelmed’ by the ‘enormous traffic.’ Additional servers have been added.” They’re about to turn on the site’s new servers as this is posted.

The campaign, starring such gay stars as part-time Atlanta resident Elton John, Clay Aiken and Wanda Sykes, kicked off Thursday by perhaps one of our biggest straight allies, Cyndi Lauper.

It’s Lauper’s True Colors Fund that is behind the gay rights group that states on its Facebook page (where you can get updates on techies trying to get the website back up) that: “The Give a Damn Campaign is for everybody who cares about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.

“But, it’s especially for all you straight people out there! Whether you’re already an active supporter, want to show your support for the first time, or hadn’t given equality a lot of thought before and now want to learn more, we are here to help you get informed about the issues and get involved, at a pace that works for you.”

Here’s the video that’s getting all the attention.
