Atlanta Pride packs a powerful list of events for Stonewall Month

For the second year in a row, Atlanta Pride has organized a series of events throughout June to honor the riot at Stonewall, considered by many as the moment the modern-day LGBT equality movement began.

This year’s honorees are: the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, which wrote a letter to state lawmakers urging them to not pass the so-called ‘religious freedom’ bill because it would effect Atlanta-based corporations who readily employee and recruit LGBT people; Grady Health System; Augusta Pride; and Kevin Clark of the Savannah chapter of Georgia Equality.

Atlanta Cotillion presents “Cirque de Nuit en Rouge”

In 2013, this event attracted some 500 people and raised more than $75,000 for AID Atlanta. The money, considered unrestricted funds, is used by the agency to supplement programs such as the Evolution Center for young gay men, free HIV testing and community testing events. AID Atlanta can also use the money to enhance access to clinical services like paying for labs for a person who cannot afford to and medicines after their Ryan White dollars have been exhausted. This year’s event includes “Americas Got Talent” finalist Prince Poppycock; “So You Think You Can Dance” performance dance crew Dragon House; and an aerialist and cirque type performance by Liquid Sky!

Join us for a day in the sun to kick off summer!”
