Charis hosts poets Megan Volpert, Eileen Myles

Atlanta Queer Lit Fest fundraiser tonight

Poets Eileen Myles and Megan Volpert will share their work at Charis Books & More to help raise funds for the Atlanta Queer Literary Festival.

The event is today from 7:30-9 p.m. A suggested donation of $5-$10 is asked.

Myles’ “Inferno” (a poet’s novel) is out now. Her collection of essays, “The Importance of Being Iceland” earned her a Warhol/Creative Capital Grant. Her most recent book of poems is “Sorry Tree.” Myles was awarded the Shelley Prize by the Poetry Society of America in 2010. She lives in New York.

Volpert, of Atlanta, is co-director of the annual Queer Lit Fest. She is a high school English teacher with an MFA from Louisiana State University. Her fourth book is titled “Sonics in Warholia.” Visit her website at www.meganvolpert.com.

The Atlanta Queer Literary Festival is now in its fifth year. This year it moves from October to June to coincide with Atlanta Pride’s Stonewall Week. The fest includes readings, workshops, panel discussions “and other literary events that focus on celebrating and connecting the LGBTQ community’s literary achievements and aspirations.”
