Black Gay Pride kicks off tonight with vigil, youth summit

Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride, billed as the largest celebration of its kind in the world, gets underway Wednesday evening on a reflective note.

The State of Young Gay America Summit is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Melia Hotel (590 W. Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308). It promises to be “the kickoff to the Atlanta Black Gay Pride events for young adults who are admittedly young but unquestionably fly.”

It is produced by Change Atlanta in conjunction with the organizers of the broader State of Black Gay America Summit, which takes place on Saturday.

“We will not bore you with statistics and meaningless jibberish, but we will be confronting, challenging and changing our generation by simply being relevant,” organizers promise.

Also at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, In the Life Atlanta kicks off its Black Gay Pride activities with the annual candlelight vigil, held at First MCC. Always inspirational, the evening offers a time for reflection and praise before the start of the busy Black Gay Pride weekend.
