Hundreds of people attended Georgia Equality's Evening for Equality fundraiser June 29 at Twelve Hotel in Atlantic Station — just days over the historic rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court on marriage equality.

The largest such event to date, this year's Evening for Equality raised more than $20,000 that will go toward funding Georgia Equality initiatives including lobbying for workplace non-discrimination, creating safe schools for LGBTQ students, HIV/AIDS advocacy, hate crimes legislation and more.

The evening honored state Rep. Karla Drenner as the sponsor of Georgia's Fair Employment Practices Act that would protect state employees from being fired based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Receiving awards for their contributions working toward equality in Georgia were Anthony Michael Kreis, who received the Allen Thornell Political Advancement Award; The Lloyd Russell Foundation (headed up by Pamm Burdett) with the Phillip Rush Community Builder Award; and Da’zon Dixon Diallo, founder of SisterLove Inc.; with the Champion for Equality award.
