Facebook relationship status update: In a Civil Union The GA Voice Editors February 17, 2011 Culture Civil unions are legal in New Jersey and Illinois will begin recognizing civil unions on June 1, 2011, according to the Human Rights Campaign. A civil unions law was just passed in Hawaii. Numerous states offer domestic partnership registrations as well. Check out what is in store across the nation for marriage equality here. LGBT Georgia residents, however, don’t have the option for gay marriage or civil unions. Domestic partnerships are available in some municipalities, however. Savannah recently passed domestic partnership benefits. Other municipalities in Georgia offering domestic partner benefits in addition to Athens-Clarke and Atlanta are Fulton and DeKalb counties and the cities of East Point, Doraville and Decatur. Unfortunately for us single people, there’s no status update that reads “single and sexy” or “single and fabulous.” So, what’s your status update?
