Gay groups head to Tampa for GOP convention The GA Voice Editors August 23, 2012 Politics GOProud will host its annual Homocon event, which based on the description reads more like a dance party than a political conference. Check out GOProud’s description of the event: GOProud’s Homocon 2012 will be “THE must-have ticket” at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa Florida on August 28th! Guests will dance the night away after the evening convention session at The Honey Pot night-club in Tampa’s Ybor City neighborhood. You can be there! Special guests will be in attendance but no big name politicians have been announced. Attendees hoping to dance the night away with Romney or his VP pick Rep. Paul Ryan are sure to be disappointed. You can check out the most up-to-date guest list here. The Log Cabin Republicans will host events in conjunction with other gay groups like the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Freedom to Marry during the convention, with the hope of building a more inclusive GOP platform. Former GOP presidential candidate and gay conservative Fred Karger will also be in attendance. Karger will use his time at the convention to draw attention to his ongoing Amway/Orlando Magic boycott and will speak out against the new party platform, which calls on Republican candidates to support a constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
