Georgia Voice unveils print redesign, new logo, new staff

As we celebrate five years of bringing the stories of Georgia’s LGBT community to the forefront, we also are proud to announce several changes that will propel us into the next five years and beyond.

First and foremost, it’s all in a name. And while it sounds the same, it’s got a new look and that’s Georgia Voice. But don’t worry about changing your bookmarks as www.thegavoice.com redirects to www.thegeorgiavoice.com.

Secondly, coming on the heels of the redesign of our website last year, a three-month long process has been completed and we our excited to unveil our brand new logo and a complete redesign of our print product. It comes to you thanks to the creative mind of our art director Rob Boeger, under the direction of our publisher Tim Boyd and our managing partner Chris Cash.

“It’s interesting how you start with one idea and you wind up finishing in a different place altogether than you originally envisioned and that it eventually takes you where it needed to go,” Boeger says. “The thought was to give each section its own distinct identity so that the reader could more easily identify transition points in the paper. The redesign is a change from front to back that allows for an easier reading experience and an overall dynamic look that is visually more appealing for the reader. I hope the readers enjoy the new look as we move Georgia Voice into its new era.”

Georgia Voice’s dedicated, hard-charging editor Dyana Bagby says, “The new look for Georgia Voice is one of many hours of work from the staff and we are thrilled with the final result. We wanted to give our readers and advertisers a fresh product while also marking our five-year anniversary in a special way. But what we will continue to do, as we always have, is inform our readers about issues facing our community better than anyone else while also sharing the many inspiring stories of individuals who do the work to make our world a better place.”

You’ll be able to find our print product in our slick new distribution boxes at a number of new locations throughout the city of Atlanta and beyond—that’s right OTP readers, we listened to you and now it’s easier than ever to get the Georgia Voice. By the end of 2015, we’ll have 125 distribution points and will have increased our circulation from 8,000 to 10,000.

You’ll continue to see those stories brought to you by Bagby, deputy editor Patrick Saunders who is entering his second year with us and who you’re sure to have seen running around town covering our community’s stories from every angle, as well as our many talented freelancers and columnists. And we’d like to welcome to new additions to our team of columnists—Simon Williamson who writes about life outside the perimeter in his column “Out in the Wild,” and Charles Stephens who writes about life as a gay man of color in his column “The Iconoclast.”

Speaking of additions to our staff, we’d like to announce that Dixon Taylor has joined Georgia Voice as one of our sales executives. She brings a wealth of experience in her celebrated career, which you’ll read about in our latest issue, and she joins the always fabulous Anne Clarke to make for a powerhouse sales team.

We will continue to build strong partnerships, such as our current ones with the city’s celebrated LGBT film festival Out On Film and the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, and keep an eye out for a forthcoming announcement on an exciting new partnership in a totally different realm of media.

All of these steps were taken in order to give you the Georgia Voice you deserve to keep you informed and to tell your many amazing stories.

“When we launched Georgia Voice in March 2010 our goal was simple: To be the media outlet of record for the LGBT community in Atlanta and throughout the state,” Boyd says. “I want to thank all the advertisers, readers, contributors and our very talented staff who have made the last five years possible. I look forward to the next five years!”
