HRC to Sen. Saxby Chambliss: Vote to end ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Chambliss, a Republican from Georgia, sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. The committee is expected to vote Thursday, May 27, on whether to add DADT repeal to the Department of Defense authorization bill.

“In spite of Senator Chambliss’ stated opposition to the repeal of DADT, Human Rights Campaign staff and volunteers continue to impress upon him the many good national security reasons why open service by gays and lesbians is in our nation’s best interests,” said Ed Westreicher, political committee co-chair for HRC Atlanta.

“Senator Chambliss sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, which is expected to take up the repeal this week. HRC encourages all Georgians who support the repeal of DADT to contact Sen. Chambliss on this important issue to LGBT equality and national security,” Westreicher said.

More than 8,500 phone calls have already been made to lawmakers from around the nation, according to HRC.
