Jane Lynch leaves the tracksuit behind, hits Atlanta for cabaret show

Don't expect to see a tracksuit or a megaphone in sight when Jane Lynch hits the Atlanta Symphony Hall stage Saturday, March 28. The out and proud Emmy-Award winning actress, singer and author has wrapped up her celebrated run as Sue Sylvester in “Glee” and she's currently on the road with her very own cabaret show.

Lynch thought she was done with theater until she played Miss Hannigan in a 2013 Broadway production of “Annie,” and as she tells the Georgia Voice, she “got hit with the bug again.”

54 Below, a popular New York City supper club, soon contacted her about doing a cabaret show and she was in. She huddled with her friend actress Kate Flannery, who played Margaret the alcoholic on “The Office,” and they took it out on the road. So what can people expect?

“They can expect an hour of smiling their face off,” she says. “We've got a really fast, action-packed solid hour of great music, different varieties, jazzy numbers, some funny folk tunes, we've got some Broadway songs we've turned on their ear. It's just fun and wild and crazy. It's loose and tight.”

Lynch sounded especially excited to be joined on the tour by Flannery, crooner Tim Davis and the Tony Guerrero Quintet. But what was it like shooting her final scene for her most popular role?

“Yeah, 'The Winner Takes It All' [ABBA duet with Matthew Morrison] was my final day,” she says. “It was really sad and really happy. It was kind of nice to end it with him and look in his eyes and the whole crew was there. It was very moving, very touching. It was a big family moment.”

Her favorite scenes from the show were “anything I did with Carol Burnett” and she does still have a tracksuit hanging around.

“I've asked for three of them. It's not like I'm going to wear them but I'll find a charity to have them auctioned off,” she says.

She'll be busy in the meantime as she has dates booked for the cabaret show into 2016, she just finished taping 10 more episodes as host of “Hollywood Game Night” and she's doing a pilot for a CBS series called “Angel From Hell.”

And don't be surprised to see Lynch around town at some popular hotspots while she's here for Saturday's show. She's filmed here before for the movies “ACOD” and “The Three Stooges” and loved dining at The Flying Biscuit in Midtown and taking a stroll through Piedmont Park, and she's also eager to check out Watershed for the first time.
