Mary Norwood announces bid to return to Atlanta City Council

Norwood indicated she would focus on her past experience in her new campaign. She has tapped gay Republican Jamie Ensley, vice chair of the national Log Cabin Republicans and also a Georgia Equality board member, as her campaign treasurer.

“I have the experience. I have a proven track record of success. I am committed to making your life in Atlanta the best it can be. You deserve good value for your tax dollars. You deserve quality city services. You deserve City Council representatives who put you first,” Norwood said in a statement today announcing her bid to return to the City Council.

“I have done that in the past. I will do it again. I know Atlanta. Atlanta knows me,” she said. “Put me to work and let me do what I do best: work for you.”

Post 2 is currently held by City Council member Aaron Watson, who was elected in 2009. He is seeking reelection.

“I am proud of the accomplishments during this first term, and honored to serve such diverse neighborhoods and businesses,” Watson said on his campaign website. ” But there is much more work to be done, and I hope you will help me keep the momentum going for another four years.”
