McDonough police: Missing lesbian died of self-inflicted gunshot wound

An officer from the Clayton County Police Department first discovered the vehicle. The case was then turned over to McDonough.

McDonough’s report states that Lawson was discovered in the backseat of her vehicle, with two apparent gunshot wounds to the head. Initial observations lead investigators to believe the death was a suicide.

Lawson sent and received several text messages to her family, including her mother, daughter, Alexander and friends. In those messages, Lawson told friends and family that she loved them and asked that they look after her daughter.

The content of those text messages was included in the police report but will not be published by GA Voice because they were Lawson’s last words to her loved ones.

Lawson’s family is holding a memorial service for her on Friday, Dec. 14, at Mount Ephraim Church at 1202 W. Marietta St. NW Atlanta, GA 30318, beginning at 11 a.m.
