Melissa Carter gets the star — and gay — treatment at Atlanta Dream game

Carter, longtime co-host for Q100’s “The Bert Show” was recognized for being the first openly gay radio personality in Atlanta on a major station and one of the few out hosts in the nation.

She was also honored for her work in the LGBT community and for the kidney transplant fund she set up in her name at Piedmont Hospital after receiving her kidney transplant in 2002.

And the “gay” and the “LGBT” were announced over the loudspeaker (you know, by the same guy who wants everyone to bang their Thuuuuuuuuuuundersticks) so there was no escaping the words in Philips Arena to a few thousand people. Many of them lesbian fans. In fact, everywhere I looked I saw lesbians in the stands.

Well done, Melissa. (Full disclosure, Melissa is a columnist for the GA Voice — check out her latest column here.)

And well done Dream. Now let’s bring home a championship.
