New poll finds same-sex marriage support at all-time high

Same-sex marriage has become a cornerstone political issue ahead of two U.S. Supreme Court cases that could have broad implications for the country’s gay and lesbian couples wishing to marry.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced this week her support for marriage equality and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman (R) announced late last week that he had reversed his position on same-sex marriage after his son told him he was gay.

“I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn’t deny them the opportunity to get married,” Portman said in an opinion piece in Ohio’s Columbus Dispatch.
