Nikki Giovanni comes to Charis Books & More for a special afternoon reading and book signing at noon today.
Giovanni, a noted poet, writer and activist, will be reading from her new poetry anthology, “The 100 Best African American Poems.” The event is free and open to the public.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., Giovanni was a finalist for the National Book Award for her autobiography, “Gemini.”
She is author of books for adults as well as children, including the children’s book, “Rosa,” about Rosa Parks. “Rosa” was a Caldecott Honors Book and reached No. 3 on the New York Times Bestseller list.
She is a University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
