Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, is a friend of equality. Besides signing on to a court brief supporting same-sex marriages ahead of the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on the Defense of Marriage Act, Amazon was at the forefront of last year’s equality push in Washington state (where the company is based) and its founder has donated a ton of money to help the movement.

Amazon also has a Corporate Equality Index score of 90 issued by the Human Rights Campaign in its annual report of LGBT-friendly businesses.

Emory professor represents NFL stars in gay marriage brief to Supreme Court

There’s an Atlanta angle to the friend-of-the-court brief filed by NFL stars Chris Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings and Brendan Ayanbadejo of the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens urging the Supreme Court to sack California’s Proposition 8.

No, nothing to do with the Atlanta Falcons for fans still stinging from the team’s lost chance at this year’s Super Bowl. But one of the attorneys who filed the brief on behalf of the NFL players is an Emory University professor.

Campus newspaper: Chick-fil-A to leave Emory University

The Chick-fil-A restaurant on Emory University’s Atlanta campus, the target of protests due to the company’s anti-gay stands, will be removed this summer, the college newspaper reported today via Twitter.

“Chick-fil-A to be removed from Cox Hall this summer as part of FACE’s new Cox Hall layout,” tweeted the Emory Wheel, the independent campus newspaper.

This past weekend, I attended my very first baby shower. Katie informed me that not having attended a baby shower until my 40s could be considered the equivalent of never having seen the ocean or been to a circus. This was a time-honored female rite of passage and I had been missing out.

I was shocked to see her rushing to make sure we left the house on time. When I questioned her uncharacteristic attention to punctuality, she explained that baby shower etiquette ranks right up there with the same requirements for weddings and funerals.
