Flash mob drowns out street preachers at Phoenix Pride
Take note, Atlanta. What’s the best way to silence a group of anti-gay street preachers encroaching on your Pride celebration? Umm… a flash mob performance to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” obviously.
As if we needed another reminder of why we must keep fighting for LGBT equality, some street preachers in Phoenix put on quite the show over the weekend during the city’s 2012 Pride festival.
Atlanta LGBT Civil Rights March participants urged to play role in upcoming elections
Approximately 50 people marched from Woodruff Park to the state Capitol on Saturday, April 21, as part of the 2012 Worldwide LGBT Civil Rights March that was to take place in cities across the country and world, according to organizers.
At a rally at the state Capitol following the march, numerous people spoke about the challenges lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face in Georgia and around the world in their fight for full equality.
Atlanta HRC Dinner adds Sean Hayes of ‘Will & Grace’ to event line-up
Actor Sean Hayes, who played way-gay Jack McFarland on the groundbreaking sitcom “Will & Grace,” will be honored at the Atlanta HRC Dinner, set for May 5 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
Hayes, currently starring in “The Three Stooges,” joins U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), the first openly gay person elected to Congress, to add star power to the line-up for the 25th Atlanta Dinner. He will receive the HRC Visibility Award at the event.
Mayor Kasim Reed’s gay spokesperson elected as Georgia delegate to DNC
Reese McCranie, the openly gay spokesperson for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, was elected as a Georgia delegate to represent the state at the Democratic National Convention.
McCranie was chosen during the April 21 elections of DNC delegates and is one of three men representing District 5, the congressional district represented by U.S. Rep. John Lewis that includes Atlanta.
Others elected to represent District 5 are Andrea Boone, Terrinee Briggs, Emma Darnell, Moriama “Mo” Ivory, Justin Giboney and C.T. Martin.
