When 3 Legged Cowboy closed on April 30, gay Atlanta fans of country music and two-stepping were left without a nightlife home. This weekend, that changes.
Deana Collins and her partner, Sheila Whitehead, owners of 3 Legged Cowboy, have teamed up with the Heretic to start up country music and dancing nights at the club on Cheshire Bridge Road.
“That was so sweet of them,” Deana Collins says of the owners and management of the Heretic. “They’ve been in the community almost as long as we have. We told them if we’re going to do this we’ve go to do it right.”

Reports of 3 Legged Cowboy's closure quickly spread Sunday afternoon and the gay country and western bar has since created a Facebook event, Final Week of Dancing, to invite the public to come to the bar before it shuts its doors April 30.
The bars owners took to Facebook again today to post a more thorough farewell and offered hope of a new gay country bar popping up somewhere down the road:
I am so sorry to be telling you [we] will be closing as of May 1, 2011. And we want to thank you for all your support and help over the years. We tried up to the end to keep our bar.
As you know, we came back to give you a full time country bar, which I felt we needed at the time for our people. A place to call home and have good, clean fun, to bring your families, parents. I will miss you all. And yes, I hold you in my heart, each and everyone of you.
Earlier today, Atlanta gay bar 3 Legged Cowboy announced via its Facebook page that it was closing, effective at the end of April:
“Rumors are true. We have sad news. Saturday, April 30th will be our last night open. Make sure to come this week and dance. We love everyone of you and appreciate the support over the years. Spread the word.”
Just yesterday, 3 Legged Cowboy posted a message on its Facebook page promoting a June 4 event with DJ Joey.
The bar was known for its weekly two-step dance lessons and its country and western flair. It is located in the Midtown Promenade shopping center along with F.R.O.G.S Cantina and Metrofresh.
