It's time to head to the mountains.
The 7th annual Women's Music in the Mountains Festival begins Friday, April 29, and runs through the weekend at the Swiftwaters campground in North Georgia.
Swiftwaters was founded 32 years ago by lesbian partners Dorothy (Dot) Osebold and Joyce Tree. After Osebold died, Tree kept the only campground in Dahlonega near the Blue Ridge Mountains for women open with the help of Pat Roberts, who also became Tree's partner. Tree died a few years ago and friends and volunteers, such as singer-songwriter Ronnda Cadle, now help Roberts keep the space a destination spot for women, mostly lesbians, who enjoy camping and, yes, music.
