Q-100's Melissa Carter to emcee public forum

Town hall meeting tonight to discuss HIV among gay, bisexual men in Ga.

Georgia’s Department of Community Health’s HIV Unit is holding a public town hall meeting tonight to discuss fighting HIV among gay and bisexual men in the state.

With HIV infection rates more than 44 times higher than heterosexual men and a new CDC study showing that nearly one in five gay and bisexual men in a study of 21 major U.S. cities has HIV with almost half of them not knowing their status, education and information is crucial to slow the spread of the disease.

Melissa Carter, an open lesbian and co-host of the Bert Show on Q-100, will facilitate the forum.

The town hall meeting also falls just days before the National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Sept. 27.
