Georgia Equality Hosts Week-Long World AIDS Day Events

Georgia Equality will commemorate World AIDS Day (December 1)– a day when we take time to remember who we’ve lost and fight to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic statewide, nationwide, and worldwide – with a week of events to engage the community, starting Monday (November 26).

The week will be kicked off on Monday with a screening of the film “Boy Meets Girl,” about a transgender woman living in a small town looking for love, at Phillip Rush Center (1530 DeKalb Ave.) from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. The screening will be followed by a panel conversation, led by Georgia Equality’s Gender Inclusion Organizer Chanel Haley, focused on HIV and dating in the trans community. RSVP for this event here.

On Tuesday (November 27) from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M, Georgia Equality will host a panel conversation on black women and Atlanta’s HIV movement at Atlanta Technical College (1560 Metropolitan Pkwy SW). RSVP for this event here.

Wednesday (November 28) is Open Mic Night. Singers, comedians, and poets alike can join Georgia Equality – in partnership with Thrive SS – at Kupcakerie (2781 Main St.) from 6:30 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. for a night of fun and fellowship. RSVP for this event here.

The Pre-World AIDS Day Week ends on Thursday (November 29) with a staged reading of the play “Before it Hits Home” by Cheryl L. West and directed by Jamil Jude. This award-winning play is about the impact of AIDS on a young man, his lovers, and his family. The pre-show reception begins at 6:00 P.M. at Actor’s Express Theatre Company (887 West Marietta St. NW Suite J-107) and the show lasts from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. A suggested donation will be taken at the door. RSVP for this event here.
