1. The Human Rights Campaign is cheering Alabama Democrat Doug Jones’ victory over homophobic Republican Roy Moore in last night’s incredibly close special election for the Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Jones’ victory marks the first time in 25 years that Alabamans have elected a Democrat to the office. “Tonight, in rejecting avowed bigot Roy Moore, Alabama voters solidified once and for all that attacking and demonizing the LGBTQ community is a sure-fire way to get yourself beat on Election Day,” said HRC President Chad Griffin.

2. Iconic singer Morrissey said on his official Facebook page that he was misquoted in a recent interview he gave to the German newspaper Der Speigel in which he seemingly minimized the actions of disgraced actor Kevin Spacey. The former Smiths frontman vehemently denied defending Spacey, then attacked print media and wrote, “Our request to Der Speigel for an unchopped, unfiddled-with audio of their interview with me has been refused. Let that alone be your answer.”

3. Actress Marsha Warfield of the ’80s TV classic “Night Court” posted on Facebook that the main reason she didn’t publicly come out as a lesbian until relatively late in life was because her mother asked her to wait until she passed. Warfield wrote that her orientation was an open secret. “It was an uncomfortably kept promise to my mother… The fear of the judgment of strangers and their holier-than-thou ‘shoulds’ was at least as big of a burden to bear. But the ‘shoulds’ that ‘should’ matter don’t. Nobody should have to hide their sexuality. No parent should ask their child to.”

4. Major League Baseball umpire Dale Scott, the first umpire to come out as gay in the sport’s history, has announced his retirement after working with the New York Yankees for 32 years.

5. VIDEO OF THE DAY: Catch FOX’s official trailer for the next season of “American Crime Story,” which focuses on gay designer Gianni Versace’s 1997 murder and stars Penelope Cruz as Gianni’s sister, Donatella.
