Grant Garris recounts how he conquered victimhood, abuse in new memoir

Atlanta gay writer reads from ‘Under the Red Velvet Cover’

“Under the Red Cover” is the memoir by openly gay author Grant Garris that details how he overcame child molestation and physical and mental abuse to overcome adversity and grow into an adult who now is a public speaker for diversity and equality.

Garris reads from his book today at 7:30 p.m. at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse.

Garris, who with his partner, adopted two special needs children, founded a website, www.avillagetoraise.com, to provide resource to adoptive families, special needs children and parents and non-traditional families. He has written articles about parenting, gay parenting, and surviving abuse that have been published in national and international magazines.
