Atlanta police arrest 50 male prostitutes in ‘Operation Summer Heat’

The undercover johns were all male, said Carlos Campos, spokesperson for the APD, indicating male hustlers arrested were seeking male clients. LGBT liaison Brian Sharp was on the scene to help with the arrests of possible LGBT persons involved in the raid, Campos said.

“We booked them according to the gender on their driver’s licenses. While our LGBT liaisons were present and assisted us with identifying any potential issues within those communities, none of the arrestees expressed a desire to be treated differently,” Campos said.

“Operation Summer Heat” was a combined effort of the APD’s undercover vice and APEX units and Zone 5 officers. The APEX unit is the unit that replaced the controversial Red Dog unit.

As Atlanta’s weather continues to become warmer, undercover operations like this will continue, said Vice Commander Lt. Scott Kreher.

Also during the raid, police arrested eight johns, made arrests in five marijuana sales and five cocaine sales, impounded seven vehicles and seized $1,000 in cash.
