Webb, a student at Morehouse College, and Wholley, a Spelman College student, have been on the forefront of pushing LGBT exposure on both campuses.
Webb led an initiative to bring a Pride week to Morehouse College, the first of its kind at the school. He also fought against the college’s discriminatory dress code.
Wholley helped bring a Pride week to Spelman College, as well, and created “WERK,” a drag show which capped the end of the college’s inaugural LGBT Pride week.
The reception takes place this evening and will feature guests from around the country.

Also attending the LGBT Pride reception at the White House from Atlanta were Maru Gonzales and Austin Laufersweiler of the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition. GSSC has been working throughout the state to get schools to pass anti-bullying policies to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Read about their work in Cobb County.
Laufersweiler, a recent graduate of Lassiter High School, was named the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network’s Student Advocate of the Year in 2009.
