The Health Initiative announced today it is launching its new, interactive website ― www.thehealthinitiative.org ― as part of National LGBT Health Awareness Week.

The new look of the website includes a place for the LGBTQ-Friendly Provider Directory, a place where health care providers can sign up for training information as well as be listed for those seeking those providers. Those visiting the website can also search for LGBTQ-friendly providers by inputting either name, city or specialty.

“With our expansion to provide services to the statewide LGBTQ community, it was imperative that the Health Initiative experience be as user friendly as possible,” said Linda Ellis, executive director of the Health Initiative.

“We know that any type of obstacle discourages people from accessing health care, including general health and wellness information. The new website creates easier access to Health Initiative services for community members and for health service providers.”

Other services offered on the website include signing up for email newsletters, volunteer information and requesting a support group.

The Health Initiative also announced that it will hold a free Spring Health Fair on April 28 at the Rush Center and that its annual Fall Garden Party will be Sept. 16 at Einstein’s.

The health fair will be open to all LGBTQ people, is free and no appointment is required. Tickets for the Garden Party go on sale June 1.
