Openly gay Robbie Rogers on pro soccer return: ‘It’s good to be back’

What a moment it must have been for Rogers, who was all but gone from the sport.

“Earlier today I was a bit nervous,” Rogers said in a post-game press conference. “But once I got the stadium, it felt totally normal. The guys made it really easy. They played so well tonight.”

The Los Angeles Galaxy came away with a 4-0 victory, thanks to three goals from Keane. Rogers had not played competitively in nearly a year due to injury, but the 26-year old forward showed no obvious signs of rust when he stepped onto the field to help close out the match.

But the weekend wasn’t without gay controversy in the sports world. NFL running back Adrian Peterson was speaking to SIRIUS NFL Radio over the weekend and was asked his thoughts on gay marriage and openly gay players.

“To each his own, I’m not with it,” Peterson said, according to media reports. “I have relatives who are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love ’em. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But to each his own.”

Two steps forward and one step back, right?
