Last week, 18-year old Tyler Clementi, a Rutgers student, killed himself after apparently becoming depressed when his roommate and a friend allegedly broadcast live via a hidden webcam over the internet him having sex with another man.
Prior to Clementi, Asher Brown, from Houston, Texas, shot himself in the head on Sept. 23 after reportedly being bullied.
On Sept. 9 in Indiana, Billy Lucas, 15, hanged himself at his grandmother’s home after his friends said he endured years of bullying for being gay. Friends of the Lucas said he had been bullied for years because of his sexual orientation.
In Minnesota, Seth Walsh hanged himself from a tree in his garden in Minnesota on Sept. 18, also allegedly due to anti-gay bullying.
The vigil is open to all people who want to remember the queer youth who have died, Westbrook said.
