State Rep. Matthew Wilson Hosts Talk on LGBTQ Suicide Prevention

Openly gay State Representative Matthew Wilson, a finalist for Best Politician in the Georgia Voice’s Best of Atlanta awards, will be speaking about LGBTQ suicide prevention at a Talk Saves Lives community conversation in Brookhaven.

Studies show that LGB youth are five times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts and a whopping 40 percent of transgender youth have attempted suicide. In order to address this serious problem among Atlanta’s LGBTQ youth, Wilson and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-Georgia Chapter will be hosting Talk Saves Lives: A Brief Introduction to LGBTQ Suicide Prevention.

Participants will learn about the common risk factors for suicide in LGBTQ populations, how to spot the warning signs, and how to keep themselves, their loved ones, and their fellow community members safe.

The event will be on Monday, July 29 from 7 to 8pm at Skyland Trail (1961 N. Druid Hill Rd. NE). If you wish to attend, please register for the event by emailing Stuart Winborne at swinborne@asfp.org.
