Gay and lesbian politicos and straight allies are holding a “Voices for Equality” fundraiser for state Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Phillip Rush Center.
Hosts include state Rep. Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates), Georgia Equality Executive Director Jeff Graham, Glen Paul Freedman, Juliana Illari, Reese McCranie, Ken Britt, Larry Pellegrini, Teresa Joyce, Darlene Hudson, Justin Zeigler and Michael Brewer.
Donations asked for are: Champion for Equality, $500; Voice for Equality, $250; and Advocate for Equality, $100.
Morgan faces opposition in the Democratic primary on July 20 from Betty Gray, 76, of Mableton.
Elected to a fourth term in 2008, Morgan, 31, is the youngest female member of the Georgia General Assembly. When she was elected at age 23, she made history as the first African American from Cobb County to serve under the Gold Dome.
Morgan lives in Austell with her husband David, a member of the Cobb County School Board, and daughter Lailah.
Morgan is endorsed by the Atlanta Stonewall Democrats and Georgia Equality.
