Despite being closed due to the coronavirus, the High Museum is still offering art experiences virtually.
The 2020 High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction, which is the museum’s largest fundraiser, may have been canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the help of the wineries, restaurants, and individual donors, the auction will be launched online. It opens Monday, April 13 and closes Saturday, April 18 at 8:20pm. Items are now available for preview through April 12. You can register to bid through the bidding software OneCause (you must have a profile to register).
The High is also offering a virtual exhibition of The Plot Thickens: European Print Series. This exhibition presents six series of etchings, lithographs, and woodcuts to tell Shakespearean tragedies, the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son, and a pictorial dream sequence. The series are from the 19th and 20th centuries. Because the museum is closed, the entire exhibition is offered online through May 24.
If you’re still looking for more content to keep you entertained at home, you can join the High’s unofficial curator book club. Monica Obniski, the Curator of Decorate Arts and Design at the High, has an eclectic list of five reading suggestions covering everything from female architecture, the environmental movement, and the local food chain of southern Applachia, all of which can be bought through Charis Books’ website.
