Gay and straight supporters of state Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) are holding a community reception tonight at Joe’s on Juniper in his honor.
Fort faces opposition in the July Democratic primary from Graham Balch.
Hosts for the community reception are co-chairs state Rep. Karla Drenner and Craig Washington. The host committee includes Michael Brewer, Larry Pellegrini, Tim Cairl, state Rep. Simone Bell, Rashad Taylor, state Rep. Kathy Ashe, state Sen. Nan Orrock and Joy Barnes.
Organizers say that no donations are necessary to attend but will be accepted.
Fort has been endorsed by gay organizations Georgia Equality and Atlanta Stonewall Democrats.
