‘Queens on the Green’ take over after that other park film series was canceled in Piedmont Park

The Evolution Project is a program of AID Atlanta with a drop in center 583 Juniper Street, Atlanta, GA 30308, for black gay, bisexual and transgender men ages 18-28.

“As we all know during this tough economy, we are all looking for ways to enjoy ourselves. This event is a great opportunity for us to come together and enjoy a great movie and food with friends,” said Evolution Project programming assistant Markese Sanders, who organized Queens on the Screen, said in a press release. The outdoor film screenings at the Evolution Center’s drop-in center were made possible by a donation from Groupon, an online coupon source, Sanders added.

While the focus will be on entertainment with the films, the Evolution Project also will make HIV prevention a part of the park experience, especially for young black gay and bisexual men who are hardest hit by the epidemic.

“Our staff and members will be at Queens on the Green promoting safer sex messages and HIV testing ” said Evolution Project Program Manager Craig Washington.

Guests are asked to arrive shortly before 7:30 p.m., and the movie will begin at sunset. Seating will be available; however guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Free food and drinks will be served.
