Popular porn website RedTube.com (NSFW) will be allowed to continue distributing adult content for free over the internet, a California appeals court ruled yesterday. The website was being sued by Kevin Cammarata, an adult entertainment entrepreneur, who claimed the free video service violated anti-trust laws and lured paying customers away from his adult websites.

Cammarata was seeking to have RedTube.com completely pulled from the internet.

Free porn legal, California court rules

“Now that consumers have the ability to watch high-quality adult videos for free on RedTube.com, fewer are making the choice to pay other adult website proprietors for the same or similar content,” the original lawsuit suit said.

According to Time Magazine, the California Appeals Court dismissed the case after implying that many of the videos on the site were simply previews, which were intended to direct visitors to the original content provider.

“The broadcaster’s purpose is not to destroy competition or a competitor but to attract patrons to its broadcast site where they will, hopefully, respond to its advertisers’ messages,” the court said.

RedTube.com offers gay and lesbian video sections featuring several thousand free videos.
