Atlanta gay bars offer up parties to celebrate

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

It’s Cinco de Mayo, a celebration not of Mexico’s independence but the Mexican’s army victory against French forces in a victory nobody could have predicted at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The day is primarily celebrated in the U.S. with parties and there is no shortage of them taking place in gay Atlanta today.

Here’s a selection of where to go to drink a Margarita or three:

• Papi’s Cinco de Mayo double fiesta begins at Las Margaritas with Margarita Twisters, tequila shots and Sangria drink specials from 6-10 p.m. The party continues into the night be moving from Las Margaritas to the Heretic (shuttle service provided) for the Cinco de Mayo Café Con Leche party where you can dance to the beats of DJ Karlitos and DJ Chiruco with performances by Janelle Brooks, Alissah Brooks and more. • My Sisters’ Room in East Atlanta is the place to go for $10 Margarita pitchers and beer bucket specials. The dance party hosted by Atlanta Xplosion includes DJ Maestro on the ones and twos with emcee Eazy Da Great. • Chris Coleman’s Indulge party begins at 9 p.m. at Whiskey Park Atlanta on the third floor of the W Atlanta Buckhead.
