It seems like for almost every gay in the universe, Friday, Feb. 11 is supposed to be a Dorothy-in-Oz kind of day. You know, when you wake up everything is in black and white, then a tornado picks up your house and drops you off in a technicolor k-hole?

Except this time, the tornado is Lady Gaga's single “Born This Way.” Here are the lyrics.

The gay-affirming singer-songwriter hasn't been shy to hype the title track of her next release, due out this May. Here are some of the things she and those who've heard the track have said about the track and album to follow:

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ considered our next gay anthem?

Recently to Vogue Magazine about the single:

“I wrote it in ten f***ing minutes and it is a completely magical message song. And after I wrote it, the gates just opened, and the songs kept coming. It was like an immaculate conception.”

Jonathan Van Meter, the author of the Vogue piece:

“The song at first sounds suspiciously like a Madonna tune and then switches into something that feels a bit like a Bronski Beat hit and then finally transforms into its own thing: a Gaga original. Clearly an homage to the obscure underground disco record “I Was Born This Way”; it is an unbelievably great dance song, destined to be the anthem of every gay-pride event for the next 100 years.”

FYI: Here’s a link to the obscure underground disco record “I Was Born This Way.”

Gaga said of the album in May 2010 to the Times of London:

“[It’s] more spiritual, I don’t want to say much, because I want it to stay hidden until it comes out — but I will say that religion is very confusing for everyone, and particularly me, because there’s really no religion that doesn’t hate or condemn a certain kind of people, and I totally believe in all love and forgiveness, and excluding no one.”

Gaga on the album in June 2010 to Showstudio.com:

“This new album is my chance to create what in 20 years will be seen as my iconic moment. That’s what you should always aim at.”

Gaga in I-D Magazine, August 2010:

“The new album is my absolute greatest work I’ve ever done, and I’m so excited about it. “The message, the melodies, the direction, the meaning, what it will mean to my fans and what it will mean to me in my own life — it’s utter liberation. I’m on the quest to create the anthem for my generation for the next decade, so that’s what I’ve done.” (Full quote here)

Gaga’s BFF Perez Hilton to MTV news on Feb. 2:

“Fans can expect all the hype to be true with ‘Born This Way’ and with the album,” he shared. “And you know what? It is a very gay song — unapologetically, gay-in-your-face gay — but it’s also a universal song that can relate to everyone. To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga’s career.”

You can’t throw around “immaculate conception” and “iconic moment” without raising some eyebrows (or as recent publicity shots for ‘Born This Way’ have revealed, a lack of eyebrows).

Do you think Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ will live up to its hype?
