Atlanta Freedom Bands Celebrates the Olympic Games with “Gay Paris!”

Atlanta Freedom Bands celebrates the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a concern of music by French composers and selections from the Olympic soundtrack. AFV’s 70-member concert band will present several pieces never before heard in Atlanta along with pieces that express the excitement of sport with their upcoming “Gay Paris!” concert on Saturday, June 15.

Francophiles and fans of great music will enjoy this unique program, which includes guest vocalist Rachelle Barr, who will evoke the romantic days of French cabaret with songs made popular by Edith Piaf. The concert will also feature a work from AFB’s Student Composer Residency Program: “Semper Incendeno” by Matthew P. Cline, an undergraduate studying music at Princeton University.

“The excitement is building for the Olympic Games in Paris next month,” Cliff Norris, the Director of Marketing and Development at AFB, said in a statement. “The Olympic Games were such an important part of Atlanta’s history. As an Atlantan, I can’t wait to see all the amazing things the organizers in Paris are planning this summer. We in AFB are equally excited to connect our music and city’s history to the pageantry and competition that will take place in the City of Light.”

“Gay Paris!” takes place on June 15 at 7pm at the Church on Ponce and Highland (1085 Ponce de Leon Ave NE). Tickets are $20 and available at atlantafreedombands.com.
