Singer-songwriter Willow Smith opened up about her sexuality in the latest episode of Facebook web series Red Table Talk.
Willow, the 18-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, joins her mother and grandmother, Adrienne, on the show to candidly discuss a myriad of topics. While speaking on polyamory and “unconventional relationships,” Willow came out, telling her family, “I love men and women equally.”
Willow said she was open to being part of a “throuple,” saying she’d want to be in a relationship with a man and a woman.
“I love men and women equally and so I would definitely want one man, one woman,” she said. “I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try tog o find more.”
“Personally, male and female, that’s all I need,” Willow added.
“Well there it is,” Jada responded. “Listen, you know me Willow, whatever makes you happy.”
Willow also discussed polyamory more in depth, saying that monogamy can “inhibit” members of the relationship.
“This is the scariest thought that people shy away from: the feeling the person you love is falling in love with somebody else,” she said. “That insecurity and fear just eats us alive. But insecurity and fear is something we need to overcome and evolve out of. And transmute that into something new, helpful, and help us love more freely.”
“Monogamy, I feel, actually inhibits you from learning those skills of evolving past those feelings of insecurity and jealousy.”
Unconventional Relationships: Can Multiple Partners Work?
Jada, Gammy and Willow explore alternatives to conventional marriage as they meet a “throuple” – 2 women and a man in a three-way romantic relationship. Plus, Jada and Willow embarrass Gammy by revealing their thoughts about multiple partner scenarios.
