Ruby Rose Leaves ‘Batwoman’ After Only One Season

Out Batwoman star Ruby Rose is leaving the show after only one season.

Two days after the first season finale, it was announced that Rose would not be reprising her role as Kate Kane in the confirmed second season, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly, as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success—I am truly grateful.”

No reason was given for Rose’s departure; however, the actress was forced to leave Twitter after announcing the role back in 2018 because of the backlash she received.

The production teams behind the show—Warner Bros. TV, The CW, and Berlanti Productions—thanked Rose “for the contributions to the success of our first season” in a joint statement.

Batwoman made television history as the first scripted live-action TV series to feature a lesbian superhero as the lead. According to the statement from the show’s production teams, Kane will be recast with a new lead actress who is also a “member of the LGBTQ community.”
