The CW just dropped the trailer for their new series Batwoman – the main character of which is a lesbian.
Actress Ruby Rose will portray Batwoman/Kate Kane – an openly lesbian character based on the DC Comics comic.
The series will follow Kane, the cousin of Bruce Wayne as she begins her journey to becoming Batwoman.
While fans have seen Batwoman before in a crossover episode of the CW’s Elseworlds, the trailer gives fans their first look at hero’s inception. Kane is pushed to take over for Batman after her girlfriend, Crow security officer Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy), has been kidnapped by a gang.
As she starts to take over for the famed by disappeared superhero, she’s determined to make her own name for herself and not be mistaken as Batman.
“They think I’m him,” she says. “I’m not about to let a man take credit for a woman’s work.”
Batwoman makes history as the first show with an openly LGBTQ live-action superhero leading.
