Virtual Pride Comes to Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As part of Global Pride, LGBTQ Pride is coming to one of today’s most popular games, Animal Crossing, in the form of a rainbow island, reported Forbes.

Creative agency We Are Social is bringing the virtual Pride festival to the game by building a Pride island, which includes a rainbow march, message board, hall of fame, club, and catwalk. Your villager can also find a number of Pride-themed clothing options to wear while there. There will also be a parade held on June 27.

“With the cancellation of physical Pride events around the world, we want to provide a way for people to be able to participate in celebrations wherever they are,” said Arnaud Robin, the Innovations Director at We Are Social Singapore. “Pride is an important event for many—often, it gives hope, as well as a sense of community and belonging. There was a thriving LGBTQ community on Animal Crossing already, so it was the perfect opportunity for this to happen.”

On June 27, Twitch streamers worldwide will stream their Global Pride session on the island to raise money for Global Pride and other Pride organizations that have been impacted by COVID-19.

“In this period when communities around the world remain separated as a result of lockdowns,” We Are Social said, “#GlobalPrideCrossing provides a common safe space for people of any gender, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity who are part of LGBTQ and all[ied] communities to celebrate Pride.”
