[Video] Film Love shows love for iconic underground filmmaker George Kuchar on Friday

Kuchar, who began making 8mm films when he was 12 with his twin brother, Mike, influenced underground filmmakers including as John Waters and David Lynch.

“Hold Me While I’m Naked,” is a film within a film and George the real director is also playing George the director in the film, Ditzler explains.

“He’s playing a director who can’t get a movie finished and that is in fact what happened,” says Ditzler. “In the film you get to watch both Georges at once. It’s genius. He manages to make them the same — both of them are the same.

“To be playing yourself playing yourself — I think that’s special,” Ditzler adds. “He’s done it to the extent no one else has done.”

Ditzler, a devoted fan, wants this tribute to Kuchar to bring all people together — those who have heard of him but don’t know much about him or even those who have never heard of him before.

“If you are interested in laughing and falling in love with a filmmaker … this is just a tip of the iceberg,” Ditzler says of Friday’s tribute.

“Long after you see the films you’ll be thinking about them. And maybe you’ll grab a camera like I did and as so many people did,” Ditzler adds.
