Annual Boybutante Ball brings honky tonk — and drag — to Athens

Giddy up, cowboy!

Slide your cowboy boots on and slap on a pair of chaps — this year’s Boybutante Ball is all about a honky tonk ho-down this year.

The annual party, which includes the the South’s best and wildest drag performers, takes place at the 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens with the show starting at 9 p.m.

All proceeds go to the Boybutante AIDS Foundation to go to providing financial help to HIV/AIDS organizations in North Georgia. The Boybutante Ball is the largest HIV/AIDS fundraiser outside metro Atlanta with people wearing costumes and packing the renowned 40 Watt Club for a night of drag — and this year, the theme goes country.

The Boybutante AIDS Foundation was founded in 1989 and became a nonprofit in 1995. To date, the organization has raised $500,000 for AIDS support services in North Georgia.
