LGBT Institute, LGBT Atlanta history exhibit unveiled at gala [PHOTOS]

Hundreds were in attendance as The LGBT Institute officially opened on Wednesday evening at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta. The event also doubled as a sneak peek at the Institute's first initiative, an LGBT Atlanta history exhibit that opened to the public on Thursday.

“The story of human and civil rights would not be complete without discussing the ongoing struggle for LGBT rights,” said the Institute's Interim Executive Director Ryan Roemerman in remarks to the crowd. “That is why it is necessary for the LGBT Institute to be here. It is the right time, and this is the right place.”

The exhibit, titled "Forward Together: A Look at Atlanta's LGBT History Since Stonewall," will run through the end of the year.
