LGBT, labor groups unite to honor murdered Atlanta transgender woman

A second Atlanta-area memorial for murdered transgender woman Tee Tee Dangerfield is planned for Saturday.

Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative, UNITE HERE Local 23, Atlanta Jobs with Justice and Southerners On New Ground will co-host a community memorial and healing event in Dangerfield’s honor.

“She was beloved in the Atlanta community, friend to many of our members and a beautiful person grounded inspirit and rooted in unapologetically living her truth while loving those fiercely [living] theirs,” the event page reads.

Dangerfield was shot outside a College Park, Georgia, apartment complex on July 31. She was transported to Grady Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Saturday’s service follows that of UNITE HERE’s event planned for Friday at the Atlanta airport, where Dangerfield worked as a server. She was a member of the nationwide worker’s union, which represents more than 250,000 Americans.

Dangerfield’s family is accepting donations through a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral and burial expenses. She was the 16th known transwoman to be killed in the US this year, and nearly all 16 were transwomen of color. College Park police tell Georgia Voice they are continuing to investigate her murder, but have no updates at this time.
