Program to focus on advance care planning for all families

LGBT organizations partner to present ‘Empowered Families’

Georgia Equality as well as the Stonewall Bar Association, Emory University and All Saints’ Episcopal Church are joining forces to offer an “Empowered Families” seminar on Sunday, July 15., from 11:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 W Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30308.

The seminar is open to 80 people and people are asked to RSVP by July 12 by emailing a reply to advancecareplan@emory.edu.

Focusing on advance care planning, the meeting includes presentations and information provided by attorneys with the LGBT Stonewall Bar Association as well as directors of Emory’s Center for Ethics and Pastoral Care and Ethics.

Topics to be discussed:

• What advance care planning is and how it aids in healthcare decision making for all families and loved ones.
• Hear from and about LGBT individuals and their families about experiences in the healthcare system and the impact of advance care planning.
• Learn how to have critical conversations to explore your personal values and how they impact medical decision making.
• Empower yourself and your loved ones to make an advance care plan.
• Learn about advance directives and roles of healthcare agents in care decisions.

There will also be a Q&A at the end of the program. A complimentary brunch will be provided by SABA Italian Kitchen.
