LGBT, progressive groups to march against white supremacy in Atlanta

A number of progressive, LGBT and pro-equality organizations will join forces with faith leaders tomorrow for a march to “take down” white supremacy.

The coalition includes Athens for Everyone, Black Lives Matter, the Feminist Women’s Health Center, Juxtaposed Center for Transformation, Inc., the NAACP, Racial Justice Action Center, Solutions Not Punishment Coalition, Trans(forming) and ZAMI NOBLA.

According to the event Facebook page, the mission is “to send a message to Georgia, and to America, that hate has no home here.” Marchers will start at Centennial Olympic Park and walk to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, as it was King’s philosophy of nonviolence that inspired the protest. In addition, marchers will proudly not wear masks, “as we stand for all to see the real faces of those who stand up to white supremacy.”

“We are against white supremacy, because it’s wrong and outdated,” Tracee McDaniel, CEO and founder of Juxtaposed, told Georgia Voice. “It’s a shame that in 2017, we’re still fighting the same old battles that were fought, and in most cases won, by previous generations. Your race, culture, gender or economic status doesn’t make you superior to anyone.”
