The Atlanta LGBT Advisory group will meet with the mayor and police chief in separate meetings next week to discuss punishments handed down to officers involved in the controversial raid on the Atlanta Eagle.
The board is set to meet with Mayor Kasim Reed on July 26 and Chief George Turner July 29, said Glen Paul Freedman, chair of the advisory group.
The meetings were requested after the LGBT Advisory group held a town hall meeting on July 13.
“These meetings substantially comply with the community’s request and that they are meeting with us before the end of the month, and that we will issue a statement and schedule for a community town hall afterward,” Freedman added in a statement.
At the meeting, members of the group as well as those attending the meeting voiced their dismay at why more officers involved in the raid were not fired. Turner fired six officers for being “untruthful” of the more than 30 involved in the raid in 2009.
