Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed was sworn in for his second term as the city’s mayor today and in his remarks mentioned the Eagle raid and Atlanta’s LGBT community and the hard work city officials have done to become more inclusive.
“We’ve also worked to make our city more tolerant, welcoming and inclusive. We have come from a city four years ago whose LGBT community was hurt and scarred by the city’s handling of the Eagle raid to a city that just scored a perfect 100 in the Municipal Equality Index of the Human Rights Campaign,” he said.
The perfect score from HRC, the only 100 from a city in the Deep South, was one of GA Voice’s top local stories for 2013.

Reed also this year appointed lesbian attorney Robin Shahar as his LGBT liaison and in 2012 “evolved” to fully support marriage equality.
